“Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est” – Where there is love and charity, God is there.
Caritas – Diocese of Salford is the umbrella organisation in our Diocese which coordinates much of the caring work we are involved in, from care of the homeless or young parents and families in trouble, through fostering and adoption advice, to environmental projects and educational initiatives.
“Caritas”, the Latin for charity or love, is the international organisation run by the Catholic Church throughout the world to coordinate relief and assistance to those in need. Each country or Diocese has its own organisation which shares this work: some in the developing world offering projects and assistance to those in need, some in the developed world offering help to those in the rest of the world, as well as helping their own poor.
Here in Salford we hold a collection for Caritas once a year in all our parishes, and throughout the year each parish will support many Caritas projects. Here at Saint Mary’s we support Caritas through the annual collection, through our support of Cornerstone and Bury Red Door, and through our school by means of the annual Saint Joseph’s Penny appeal.
