SCIE REVIEW OF CSSA POLICIES AND PROCEDURES – STAKEHOLDER SURVEY
The CSSA (Catholic Safeguarding Standards Agency) has commissioned the SCIE (Social Care Institute for Excellence) to undertake a review of its policies and procedures. The review aims to help shape the future of safeguarding within the Catholic Church and make representations where it is evident or perceived that the current policies and procedures are outdated, or there is a gap or no policy for a situation. To help the review team take into consideration as many views as possible, the CSSA is requesting that people right across the Catholic Church in England and Wales – including clergy, staff, volunteers, parishioners, survivors, and more – complete the following survey>

STAY WITH US, LORD, ON OUR JOURNEY

THIS WEEK’S GOSPEL

The Christian people are often depicted as a boat, with Peter at the helm. As in a boat, everyone has their part to play: kids to bring the excitement and the challenge, parents to take the responsibility, grandparents just to be there to comfort and reassure. Without Jesus the disciples were getting exhausted, frustrated and probably bad-tempered and quarrelling. When Jesus appears everything changes: first, terror and awed amazement, then Peter rushes to meet him – and loses confidence, only to be swiftly rescued. How does Jesus come to me? In the joys of family? In the unwelcome criticism of an angry neighbour who tells me the truth about myself? In the worries of a job or the agonies of a failed relationship? In the staggering beauty of creation? In physical pain? In all these situations we may discover God’s presence, and without that presence we cannot expect to cope. Jesus does not force himself upon us. He just jogs us, and says, ‘Here I am if you want me.’ He may disappear into the sea-mist again for a time, and we may sink into the water like mistrustful Peter. But it all ends with a welcome and a recognition that Jesus can help, even in a life-threatening situation. Why is Peter such a good role-model for us?

BAPTISMS Please see Fr. Brady after Mass if you would like your child to be baptised. A baptismal certificate for one of the parents must be provided as evidence of baptism in a Roman Catholic Church before a baptism date can be given. We welcome parents and children and by attending Masses at the weekend on Saturday at 5.30pm, Sunday at 9.00am or 10.00am which fulfil the Sunday obligation. All Catholics are OBLIGED to celebrate Mass on EVERY Sunday.

SICK AND HOUSEBOUND If you know of anybody who would like Fr Brady to visit, could you please give him their name and address with postcode and a contact telephone number. Thank you.

MASS INTENTIONS AND NEWSLETTER INCLUSIONS The practice of requesting a Mass to be offered for loved ones, living or deceased, is a beautiful and wonderful part of our Catholic Tradition. Continuing this long-standing practice, you can remember someone who has died recently or many years ago. The Mass can also make beautiful gifts for any special occasion: birthdays, anniversaries, in thanksgiving for a prayer answered etc. You can offer an intention for anybody who is struggling with a serious illness or other difficulties of life. Please hand in any Mass Intentions and items for the bulletin before Thursday as the newsletter is printed on Friday Morning. There are Mass Intention Envelopes provided on the table in the Atrium. Please provide a contact number with Mass Intentions so that any discrepancies can be resolved. Thank you.

WELCOMERS NEEDED: If you would be interested in joining the welcome team, who greet people coming into Mass at the weekend, please speak to Fr. Brady. “Make hospitality your special gift” (Romans 12:13)

OUR LADY’S LAMP AND THE SANCTUARY LAMP: These burn for seven days. Please place any intentions in an envelope with £5 in the Mass Offerings Box in the Atrium.
