CARITAS
Can you help bring back a child’s smile this summer? Over 330,000 children in our diocese are now living in poverty.  Our diocesan charity, Caritas Salford, has found demand for its services to support them and their families has grown significantly recently, with hardworking families significantly affected and experiencing acute crisis. Can you help? Find out simple ways you can take action, or make a donation to help children in your area now here: www.caritassalford.org.uk/child poverty

NEW BENCH
Thank you to a parishioner who has kindly donated funds for a new bench by the front door.

NEXT WEEKEND
Fr Brady is in Liverpool for the weekend of 13th & 14th July, attending the Ordination to the Priesthood and First Masses of two friends. There are four men being ordained to the Priesthood for the Archdiocese of Liverpool; James Finnegan, Martin Fyles, Peter Ross and Lister Tonge. Please keep them in your prayers. Fr Gavin Landers will be joining us for weekend Masses. Many thanks to him.

SEAFARER SUNDAY – 14TH JULY
Seafarers and fishers play a vital role in all of our lives, but they often work in difficult, hazardous conditions. Sea Sunday is when the church prays for all those who live and work at sea. Your support will make a big difference to seafarers and fishers in need. There will be a collection after all masses so please give generously. Thank you.

DIOCESAN PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES IN OUR CENTENARY YEAR
Led by Bishop John Arnold, will take place between 26th July and 1st August. Find out more and book online: Book OnlineLeaflets available in the Atrium.

STAY WITH US, LORD, ON OUR JOURNEY

THIS WEEK’S GOSPEL

The very last sentence of the reading speaks of the people’s lack of faith. What was this lack of faith? They recognized in Jesus an extraordinary wisdom and the power to perform miracles, but this seems not to have been enough. What more was needed? Faith is not the acceptance of a set of propositions (‘I believe that the earth circles the sun’, etc.). It is putting all my trust in God as my only hope. Abraham, the model of faith, went out into the desert, leaving everything on which he relied, everything that made him what he was. He even trusted God to get him out of the unbearable fix when God told him to sacrifice his only son. The townsfolk of Nazareth presumably thought they knew Jesus through and through. They were prepared to acknowledge his wisdom and his miracles. But they were not prepared to go further and see that God was at work in him, that he was the manifestation of God among them. It is all very well to admire Jesus, to think him a fine teacher and a heroic, honourable man, who gave everything for his high ideals; but unless we see God in him, the divine transcendence of all that is human, he cannot work the miracle of taking us to himself. What does it mean to you to describe yourself or someone else as “a person of faith”?

BAPTISMS Please see Fr. Brady after Mass if you would like your child to be baptised. A baptismal certificate for one of the parents must be provided as evidence of baptism in a Roman Catholic Church before a baptism date can be given. We welcome parents and children and by attending Masses at the weekend on Saturday at 5.30pm, Sunday at 9.00am or 10.00am which fulfil the Sunday obligation. All Catholics are OBLIGED to celebrate Mass on EVERY Sunday.

BAPTISM CERTIFICATE COPIES REQUESTS For those requesting copies of baptism certificate the office can be contacted initially and the certificate can be collected at any of the weekend Masses. This is also to encourage people to come to Mass.

SICK AND HOUSEBOUND If you know of anybody who would like Fr Brady to visit, could you please give him their name and address with postcode and a contact telephone number. Thank you.

MASS INTENTIONS AND NEWSLETTER INCLUSIONS The practice of requesting a Mass to be offered for loved ones, living or deceased, is a beautiful and wonderful part of our Catholic Tradition. Continuing this long-standing practice, you can remember someone who has died recently or many years ago. The Mass can also make beautiful gifts for any special occasion: birthdays, anniversaries, in thanksgiving for a prayer answered etc. You can offer an intention for anybody who is struggling with a serious illness or other difficulties of life. Please hand in any Mass Intentions and items for the bulletin before Thursday as the newsletter is printed on Friday Morning. There are Mass Intention Envelopes provided on the table in the Atrium. Please provide a contact number with Mass Intentions so that any discrepancies can be resolved. Thank you.

OUR LADY’S LAMP AND THE SANCTUARY LAMP These burn for seven days. Please place any intentions in an envelope with £5 in the Mass Offerings Box in the Atrium.
