Bill made the Ambrey at Fr Brady’s request. We thank Bill sincerely for adding further beauty to our Church.

LENTEN STATION MASSES

Thursday 14th March:
Mass at Saint Michael’s Whitefield. 7.00pm.

Thursday 19th March:
Reconciliation Service at Saint Joseph’s Heywood. 7.00pm.

CONTINUING WORKS
Although the repairs from the flood are now complete at a cost of +£18,000, (covered by the insurers) the roof and internal down spouts continue to let in water throughout the building.

There is a recurring problem by the statue of Our Blessed Lady and the brand-new carpet in Fr’s office was sodden with rainwater again last week.

We have a maintenance contract with Ross Roofing who ensure (twice a year) that the roof is cleared of all debris. However, the latest problems require further works and will cost approximately £1,500. Just to keep you in the know the average weekly collection averages around £650 – £700 from the three weekend Masses.

If anybody has any fundraising ideas or expertise, we could really do with it! God Bless.

STAY WITH US, LORD, ON OUR JOURNEY

THIS WEEK’S GOSPEL

After Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus comes this reflection on Nicodemus’ visit. Is it Jesus’ reflection or the evangelists? The text does not make it clear. Throughout the gospel of John people are coming to Jesus and judging themselves by their reactions to Jesus. The Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son. In his turn the Son does not judge, but we judge ourselves by our reaction to him. So, at the wedding at Cana the disciples believe in him and see his glory. In the Temple the Jews refuse belief and are condemned. Then comes Nicodemus in secret and in fear. At this point he is sitting on the fence, afraid of the Pharisees – but by the time of the burial he has decided for Jesus. After Nicodemus the Samaritan woman approaches Jesus. Cheeky and unbelieving at first, she is won over by Jesus’ playful persistence. And so on – the Jews on one side, the man healed at the Pool of Bethzatha on the other: the Jews on one side, the man blind from birth on the other. The decision is ours too. When confronted by Jesus, do we come to the light so that our deeds may be known, or do we shun the light?

BAPTISMS Please see Fr. Brady after Mass if you would like your child to be baptised. A baptismal certificate for one of the parents must be provided as evidence of baptism in a Roman Catholic Church before a baptism date can be given. We welcome parents and children and by attending Masses at the weekend on Saturday at 5.30pm, Sunday at 9.00am or 10.00am which fulfil the Sunday obligation. All Catholics are OBLIGED to celebrate Mass on EVERY Sunday.

BAPTISM CERTIFICATE COPIES REQUESTS For those requesting copies of baptism certificate the office can be contacted initially and the certificate can be collected at any of the weekend Masses. This is also to encourage people to come to Mass.

SICK AND HOUSEBOUND If you know of anybody who would like Fr Brady to visit, could you please give him their name and address with postcode and a contact telephone number. Thank you.

MASS INTENTIONS AND NEWSLETTER INCLUSIONS The practice of requesting a Mass to be offered for loved ones, living or deceased, is a beautiful and wonderful part of our Catholic Tradition. Continuing this long-standing practice, you can remember someone who has died recently or many years ago. The Mass can also make beautiful gifts for any special occasion: birthdays, anniversaries, in thanksgiving for a prayer answered etc. You can offer an intention for anybody who is struggling with a serious illness or other difficulties of life. Please hand in any Mass Intentions and items for the bulletin before Thursday as the newsletter is printed on Friday Morning. There are Mass Intention Envelopes provided on the table in the Atrium. Please provide a contact number with Mass Intentions so that any discrepancies can be resolved. Thank you.

OUR LADY’S LAMP AND THE SANCTUARY LAMP These burn for seven days. Please place any intentions in an envelope with £5 in the Mass Offerings Box in the Atrium.
